Green Aventurine

 All of Creation worships and mirrors God's glory.

     As you walk through the forest, you'll see a hundred shades of green; golden-green where sunlight touches the tallest leaves, brilliant lime in the young springtime shoots, and the darkest emerald in the shadows. Wind blows through, shaking the trees and shifting the picture slightly, so that different hues catch the light. This dance of sunshine is alike aventurescence, the glittering effect within green stones called aventurine. Darker gems hold particles of mica suspended within the crystals, creating this shifting picture of flashes of brighter and darker green. Aventurine is a form of quartz, characterized by its translucency and the flashy, microscopic flakes of fuchsite inclusions which create a sparkling effect. Aventurine can be green, blue, orange, red, yellow, and pink, due to various inclusions alongside the mica.

     All living things on this earth grow and change, from the most basic grasses to the complex and beautiful creatures called humans. Our bodies grow, changing from children to adults; our hearts grow, learning new things and maturing; and most of all, our minds grow, gaining wisdom over the years.

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season,

and its leaf does not wither.

In all that he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish."

Psalm 1

     Those who live pure lives and follow the Lord grow strong and tall, like a tree, unbending to the wind and storm, able to provide for others their fruit in the same way that God provides a river to them, so that they can grow and thrive.

     "And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Matthew 6:28-33

     God provides for the flowers and vines and trees of the forest, even those that we call weeds. He gives the plants if the earth, each one carefully handcrafted by Him, everything they need to grow. Here He tells us that if He tends to His creations which are so inconsequential, we can never doubt His provision and protection over us, whom He created in His image and to whom He gave free will. We are treasured far more than the wildflowers: if He gives a tree rain to water it, He will give us a river; if He gives the flowers petals to clothe them, surely He will give His children all we need to clothe ourselves. He takes care of His children and meets all of our needs. We can trust in Him no matter the situation, because we can find all we need in Him.

     "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8
